Coast Guard Cutter Bristol Bay returned to service in Detroit in late October after completion of an HVAC system upgrade to increase heating and cooling capacities. Coast Guard Cutter Morro Bay departed Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, Maryland, Nov. 18 after completion of the same HVAC system upgrade. Bristol Bay and Morro Bay are the sixth and seventh of nine 140-foot icebreaking tugs to undergo this work. Morro Bay also underwent a full drydock and received the first flexible berthing modification of the cutter class. The In-Service Vessel Sustainment Program restores mission readiness, improves reliability and reduces maintenance costs of the service’s legacy cutter fleet.
