In Case You Missed It | TRICARE West Region e-Updates March 2019

March 2019:

  1. Qualifying life events mean opportunities to change your enrollment. As of Jan. 1, 2019, you may only enroll in or make changes to your TRICARE Prime or Select plan during the annual open season, or due to a qualifying life event (QLE). In the event you experience a QLE, you have 90 days to make eligible enrollment or plan changes. In order to make a change, first update your information in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) to ensure all TRICARE information displays accurately for you and your family.
  2. Save time by using secure self-service tools online. Health Net Federal Services, LLC (HNFS) offers many helpful tools online. Use your DoD Self-Service (DS) Logon or register at www.tricare-west.com to access a variety of TRICARE-related information and transactions. Logging in allows you to securely access enrollment payment history, authorization and referral status, claim status, Explanation of Benefits, and more. Save a phone call by using these secure tools any time you need them.
  3. Learn more about Point of Service (POS) to avoid unexpected costs. The POS option allows non-active duty beneficiaries enrolled in a TRICARE Prime plan to receive care from a TRICARE-authorized health care provider, other than their assigned primary care manager (PCM), without a referral when normally required. While the POS option is available, it does come with higher out-of-pocket costs. Please note, this option is not available for active duty service members (ADSMs). ADSMs who do not coordinate care through their PCM may be responsible for the entire cost of care.
  4. Sign up to receive TRICARE disaster alerts. TRICARE West Region beneficiaries have experienced a surge of natural disasters lately. Most recently, California has been affected by flooding due to heavy rainfall throughout the state. These and other natural disasters may generate emergency prescription refill procedures in affected areas.Stay up-to-date by signing up to receive disaster alerts at www.tricare.mil.
  5. Use the suggest changes feature to let us know if there is a change needed in the Network Provider Directory. If you notice your provider has incorrect information listed in our online directory, you can use thesuggest changes feature to notify us. Simply complete the required fields as prompted, and an HNFS representative will verify and update the listing accordingly.
  6. Become familiar with the TRICARE pharmacy program. The TRICARE pharmacy program provides prescription drug coverage for all TRICARE beneficiaries. Drugs covered by TRICARE are grouped into four tiers: generic, brand-name, non-formulary, and non-covered. These groups are based on the medical and cost effectiveness of a drug compared to other drugs of the same type. Express Scripts, Inc (Express Scripts) is the TRICARE pharmacy program contractor and can assist you with coverage reviews, filing prescription claims for up-front payments, and other pharmacy needs. Be sure to visit the Express Scripts website for the latest information regarding the TRICARE pharmacy program.
  7. Talk to a registered nurse using the Military Health System (MHS) Nurse Advice Line, available 24/7. There may be times when you need a quick health-related question answered by an expert. With the MHS Nurse Advice Line, you can get advice from a registered nurse anytime you need it. While the Nurse Advice Line should not be used for emergencies, this convenient service can offer peace of mind by helping you make informed decisions about your immediate health care needs.
