Updated Procedures for Documenting Parental Leave in Direct Access

SUBJ: UPDATED PROCEDURES FOR DOCUMENTING PARENTAL LEAVE IN DIRECT
ACCESS (DA)
A. COMDT COGARD WASHINGTON DC 051608Z JAN 23/ALCOAST 005/23
1. This ALCOAST announces an update to the procedures for
requesting Parental Leave in Direct Access (DA) and the transition
of currently entered Caregiver Leave in DA to the new Parental
Leave category for military members.
2. New actions are available in DA.
    a. Three new categories of non-chargeable leave have been added
to the drop down list for Parental Leave, and the previous
Caregiver Leave options have been removed.
    b. Any Caregiver Leave pending with a date on or before 15 April
2023 have been updated to Approved.
    c. Any Caregiver Leave pending or approved with a date after 15
April 2023 have been updated to Withdrawn.
3. Action for military members currently on or requesting Parental
Leave.
    a. Members will now use the available categories of:
Parental Leave Birth, Parental Leave Adoption, or
Parental Leave Foster Care.
    b. Those members who have Caregiver Leave in DA for dates after
15 April 2023 will have to resubmit their Parental Leave request
in DA using one of the categories in paragraph 3.a).
    c. Members without DA access and who are currently on previously
approved Caregiver Leave should work with their Personnel &
Administration (P&A) shop to have the withdrawn Caregiver Leave
re-entered in DA as Parental Leave.
