If you are not already aware, Change 3 to Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD Form 214/5 Series), DoDI 1336.01, was released January 2019. One big change is in Enclosure 3, Article 2.d.(1) stating "Reserve Component personnel ordered to active duty for a contingency operation for a period greater than 30 days will be issued a DD Form 214." This is a change from the previous edition where we were supposed to issue a DD-214 regardless of the number of days they were on a contingency.
Going forward, all CONTINGENCY reserve orders with an END date on or before 1/22/2019 will be issued a DD-214 regardless of the number of active duty days served. All CONTINGENCY reserve orders with an END date on or after 1/23/2019 will only be issued a DD-214 if they served 31 days or more of consecutive active duty.
Reserve active duty orders not in support of a contingency remains unchanged. A DD-214 will only be issued for non-contingency orders if the member has served 90 days or more of consecutive active duty. Back-to-back reserve orders with no break in active duty will be combined.
