Flag Voice #514 - Master Chief Advancement Panel

PRINT  |  E-MAIL

I am pleased to announce a significant change to the way the Coast Guard selects Master Chief Petty Officers. Starting this summer, Master Chiefs will be selected by a panel evaluated by their records of performance, a practice the DoD Services have used since the 1960’s. Previously, scores on standard tests have been the greatest contributing factor for determining advancement.

Presided over by a flag officer, the Master Chief Advancement Panel will be divided into sub-panels based on ratings and chaired by post command Captains (O-6). Sub-panel membership will include Command Master Chiefs, Rating Force Master Chiefs, and Master Chief Petty Officers from the field. The single most important factor for our E-8 candidates is to ensure their EI-PDR and Employee Summary Sheets (ESS) are up-to-date, accurate and complete.

Additional guidance can be found in ACN 016/20ALCGENL 220/19, ALCGENL 009/20, as well as PSC-EPM’s website: https://cg.portal.uscg.mil/units/psc/psc-epm/
