Coast Guard Cutter Eagle Completes Phase 3 Of Renovation

Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, the service’s sail training ship, departed from the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, Maryland, April 26, after completing phase 3 of service life extension work as part of the In-Service Vessel Sustainment (ISVS) Program.

Eagle’s service life extension project (SLEP) is divided into four phases to ensure the cutter’s availability for summer training sessions. Phase 3 began in September 2016. Work during this phase included hull renewal, continued lead abatement and habitability improvements.

The final phase of Eagle’s SLEP is scheduled to begin in September 2017.

The ISVS Program performs major maintenance and renovation work on older Coast Guard vessels to improve their reliability and manage operating costs. ISVS systematically evaluates the Coast Guard’s surface platforms and creates a recurring funding stream to provide a cost-effective way to ensure the service has the cutters and boats necessary to complete its missions.
