Acquisition Update: Coast Guard Completes Fiscal Year 2016 Response Boat Orders

Nov. 4, 2016

The Coast Guard placed the final response-boat small II (RB-S II) delivery order  for fiscal year 2016, valued at approximately $383,000 with Metal Shark Aluminum Boats of Jeanerette, Louisiana, Sept. 29. The order brings the total number of RB-S IIs ordered to 64, the maximum total allotted for fiscal year 2016 under the contract.

In all, the Coast Guard has ordered 264 RB-S IIs. Full-rate production is ongoing, and the service regularly delivers the assets to units across the country. To date, 218 RB-S IIs have been delivered to 30 states and territories.

The 29-foot RB-S II can travel at a top speed of more than 40 knots and is deployed close to shore to aid in missions, including search and rescue, port security, environmental response, law enforcement and drug and migrant interdiction. The platform features improvements to increase crew comfort and is replacing the 25-foot response boats-small, which are reaching the end of their planned 10-year service lives.
