Please use your local command and Legal Office assistance where available.  The CGMHRR Section only provides assistance in obtaining the authorized signature for the N-426.

The official USCIS web page (https://www.uscis.gov/military/naturalization-through-military-service) is the focal point for information on how a current active military member can apply for US citizenship under the USCIS 'Streamline' Program. This website is also the primary method for submitting your completed application to USCIS.

Here are some highlights of what you need to do to apply for US citizenship while on duty with the Coast Guard.

* You must be serving either as a regular active full time member or a reservist with remaining obligation.

* You must be a US citizen to reenlist. See the manual for more information.

These forms are available on the USCIS web page:

N-400: This is the application itself. TYPE IT!! Please make sure you check block 'C' in part two where it says, "I am applying on the basis of qualifying military service". Fill out the rest of the pages and don't fill out any area that says for you to leave blank. When finished, make sure you digitally sign in the correct block.

N-426: This is the verification of military service form. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. Member should complete parts 1-4 and digitally sign.  Part 5 and part 8 may only be signed by the EPM or RPM O-6.  Please submit your completed N-426 electronically to HQS-SMB-CGPSC-MR-CustomerService@uscg.mil. PSC-BOPS-C-MR will assist in acquiring the appropriate signature and the member will receive the signed N-426 electronically.  Members should then follow USCIS website instructions for submitting an online application.
