Coast Guard Elizabeth City Volunteer Mission Statement

Volunteering is beneficial to both society at large and the individual volunteers. In addition to the obvious economical benefits, it leads to a more cohesive society by building mutual trust and respect among local citizens and our Coast Guard personnel.  It values free will, commitment, engagement and solidarity, which are the foundations of volunteerism.

The Coast Guard Elizabeth City Volunteer program supports the Elizabeth City community by promoting volunteerism, including  mobilization of volunteers from our staff if available and permitted by law and policy.  All volunteer requests must include information that clearly demonstrates how the project will   benefit the Elizabeth City community, work to foster Coast Guard relationships within the Elizabeth City community, and/or support non-profit agencies who provide services to the Elizabeth City community.  Volunteer opportunities that meet these criteria will be reviewed on a case by case basis in accordance with COMDTINST M5370.8B, Standards of Ethical Conduct.  Support will be dependent upon the current workload, of personnel who desire to participate in the project and approval of the Base Commander.
