Command Master Chief William P. Klein

Master Chief Klein assumed responsibilities as Command Master Chief of Base Charleston on May, 24, 2019. As the Command Master Chief he serves as a member of Base Charleston Command Cadre ensuring the Commander’s Intent and leadership philosophy are understood and carried out, as well as issues and initiatives pertaining to all Coast Guard members and their families.

Raised in Palm Harbor FL, Master Chief Klein enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in July 1995. He is married to the former Lauran Zgodava of Minnesota, and has two boys, Colton and Zachary.

Previously, Master Chief Klein served as the Command Senior Chief Sector Upper Mississippi River; Command Senior Chief and Engineer Petty officer at Maritime Safety and Security Team Boston, MA; Engineer Petty Officer USCGC Sea Devil, Naval Base Bremerton, WA; Engineer Petty Officer USCGC Knight Island, Key West, FL; Assistant Engineer Petty Officer Station Fort Myers Beach, FL; USCGC Boutwell, Alameda, CA; MAT Sault Ste Marie, MI; Group Sault Ste Marie, MI; USCGC Bramble, Port Huron, MI.

Master Chief Klein is a graduate of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy Class CLVII (157), Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Leadership Course and has his Bachelors in Emergency and Disaster Management.

Master Chief Klein’s military awards include Meritorious Service Medal with operational distinguishing device, two Coast Guard Commendation Medals with operational distinguishing device, eight Coast Guard Achievement Medals with operational distinguishing device, COMDT’s Letter of Commendation with operational distinguishing device, various unit awards and has earned a permanent Cutterman and Advanced Boatforces insignia.
