Commander Jason Plumley
A native of Texas, Commander Plumley earned admission to the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1999. He graduated in 2003 with a B.S. in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
Following commissioning, Commander Plumley served aboard USCGC HEALY (WAGB 20) as a Student Engineer, earning qualification as an ice pilot. He was then selected to participate in Naval Engineering Postgraduate Studies at Old Dominion University and obtained a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management with a focus in Systems Engineering. In 2007, Commander Plumley joined the staff at USN Surface Warfare Officer School as the Officer-In-Charge at Learning Site Norfolk, earning the inaugural RADM Buie Award from NAVSAFECEN for positively impacting the afloat safety community in 2009. In 2010, Commander Plumley became the lead engineer for the USCGC POLAR STAR system recapitalization efforts, primarily focusing on the Machinery Control System upgrade and Cargo Crane Replacement, resulting in the vessel’s first successful Antarctic deployment in support of national interests in nearly a decade. In 2013, CDR Plumley was selected as the Engineer Officer onboard USCGC MIDGETT, guiding the 43-yr old vessel through substantial maintenance and sustainability improvements, proudly earning the Overall Operational Excellence Award. In 2015, he became the Officer-in-Charge of CBSI-TAFT, leading the team to a prestigious DHS Secretary’s Unit Award for interagency collaboration. In 2018, CDR Plumley was assigned as the Industrial Manager for Industrial Production Facility Portsmouth, VA, and returned the facility to conduct major vessel dockside availabilities. In 2021, CDR Plumley was selected as the Executive Officer of Base Charleston. CDR Plumley holds certifications as a DHS Acquisition Program Manager and Life Cycle Logistician, Project Management Professional, and is a designated USCG Naval Engineer.
Commander Plumley's personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, US Coast Guard, US Navy, and US Army Commendation Medals, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Arctic Service Medals, and other unit awards, service medals, and ribbons.
Commander Plumley is married to the former Rachel Lyons of Virginia Beach, VA and has three children: Bradley, 14 yrs, Lucas, 10 yrs, and Franklin, 8 yrs.
