EXECUTIVE OFFICER


CDR Paul Alexander

Commander Paul Alexander assumed the duties as Executive Officer of Base Boston in June of 2023. He is responsible for the oversight of mission support functions provided by Base Boston and the management of 462 crew members including Active Duty, Civilian, and Reserve. Base Boston serves as the single DCMS touch point for the First Coast Guard District in support of Coast Guard operations throughout the district’s area of operations. Base Boston also supports all other Coast Guard support units and personnel who are stationed throughout New England, New York, and Northern New Jersey.

CDR Alexander most recently served as the Engineering and Projects Branch Chief for the Surface Forces Logistics Center, Medium Endurance Cutter Product Line. There, he was responsible for overseeing engineering support for all 27 Medium Endurance Cutters and CGC EAGLE including casualty response, maintenance and configuration management, engineering change development, technical support, and project planning for the 270-WMEC Service Life Extension Program and 210-WMEC decommissionings. CDR Alexander’s previous tours include Engineer Officer of CGC SENECA in Boston, MA, Ship Superintendent at CG Yard in Baltimore, MD, Port Engineer for the Icebreaker, Buoy and Construction Tender Product Line in Cleveland, OH, and Damage Control Assistant aboard CGC TAHOMA in Kittery, ME.

CDR Alexander is a 2006 graduate of the US Coast Guard Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. In 2020, he graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA with a Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering and a concentration in ship systems. His personal awards include the CG Meritorious Service Medal, two CG Commendation Medals, two CG Achievement Medals, the Permanent Cutterman Insignia, and various unit and team awards.

CDR Alexander is from Toms River, NJ and is married to Katherine (Polefko) of Cleveland, OH. They are the proud parents of four daughters.
