About the Course

“Navigating the Interagency” is the Department of State’s mid-level interagency course, which aims to build the collaborative skills and cultural awareness of USCG employees working on national security policy issues. For more information, see the course overview information sheet.

Eligibility

All employees to members at the GS-12/13 or O-3 level, or equivalent, with fewer than 10 years of US Government Experience. This course in a “cohort” format similar to that of NSELS; participants in this course meet three separate times for a total of five days over a three-month period. Applicants must have been employed with DHS for at least one year and have received a Meets Expectations or equivalent on their last review; and must be involved in national security related policy work. Tuition is funded by an agreement between the Foreign Service Institute and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for anyone selected to participate. Travel, per diem, and other incidental expenses are the responsibility of the nominee's unit. The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) is located in Arlington, VA.


Application Procedures

Applicants are required to complete the Navigating the Interagency Nomination Form.  Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from their supervisor that indicates their approval/support for the nominee to attend ALL the training dates along with any amplifying information about the nominees qualifications.   Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.  Navigating the Interagency Nomination Form MUST be submitted in word format.  

Application Deadline

Applications are due to the Office of Leadership via email at HQS-SMB-CG-128TrainingCourses@uscg.mil by 12:00 PM, 04 September 2018. Applications will then be reviewed by the DHS, approved by the Chief Learning Officer and submitted to FSI for consideration. FSI will have final selection of candidates.
