Apprentice Leadership Program (ALP) (502203)

About the Course

This three-day, enlisted leadership continuum course is designed to provide consistent leadership and supervisory training to apprentice-level personnel prior to advancement to E-4. This course is specifically intended to assist member growth from individual contributor to an apprentice supervisor in the role of a Petty Officer. The Apprentice Leadership Program is taught during the course of instruction at all of the Coast Guard’s “A” Schools except Public Affairs Specialist (PA). Training Objectives

This three-day, enlisted leadership continuum course is designed to provide consistent leadership and supervisory training to apprentice-level personnel prior to advancement to E-4. This course is specifically intended to assist member growth from individual contributor to an apprentice supervisor in the role of a Petty Officer. This course provides E-2 through E-4 personnel a foundation in several leadership framework competencies specific to leading self and leading others. Students will receive instruction on the following leadership practices:

  • Performance Management
  • Ethics and Values
  • Culture of Respect
  • Influencing Others
  • Effective Communications
  • Team Building and Team Dynamics
  • Conflict Resolution

Course objectives are accomplished through facilitated group discussion, exercises and role play scenarios. At the end of the training, students must successfully complete a role play scenario, which is designed to test their overall knowledge of leadership techniques as an apprentice-level petty officer.
