Severe weather might cause a delayed reporting of personnel working onboard Base Portsmouth to avoid hazardous commuting situations. If such conditions exist, Base Portsmouth Staff should call the Base Portsmouth Foul Weather Hotline (757) 686-4233 not the OOD.

The Base Portsmouth Local Incident Command Post (LICP) will keep this emergency information line updated as conditions warrant. When operational, the LICP will be manned 24 hours and may be reached at 483-8575. We work in conjunction with Atlantic Area and Fifth District to ensure information is correct and as timely as possible. Please understand, there are numerous factors that must be taken into consideration before Base Portsmouth will be closed for business due to weather conditions.

Should the need arise to close the base during working hours the word will be passed through Commanding Officers/Department Heads and their assistants as quickly as possible. The safety and protection of Base Portsmouth personnel and property are our top concern and will not be jeopardized in order to "keep the base running", but we will not shut down unnecessarily.
