The Coast Guard’s elevated efforts to do business with small companies are not going unnoticed. Leaders from the Acquisition Directorate have been recognized by the Government Technology and Services Coalition’s (GTSC) media outlet, Homeland Security Today, as part of their 2018 #HomelandHeroes awards.

Michael Derrios, senior procurement executive and head of contracting activity, and Dwight Deneal, director of small business and industry liaison programs, will be honored with the Federal Small Business Champion of the Year award at GTSC’s annual event Dec. 11 in Arlington, Virginia. “The pair are being recognized for their work developing USCG acquisition guidelines, policies and programs with business community stakeholders to enhance competition and develop better acquisition processes and strategies,” stated Homeland Security Today in their announcement.

The Homeland Security Today #HomelandHeroes awards recognize individuals and teams across federal, state, and local homeland security communities who diligently work toward their missions every day. Nominations were submitted by homeland security community members across the country. Derrios and Deneal are among just 24 recipients selected for various awards that honor their unique roles in forwarding the homeland security mission.
