ALCOAST 216/25

SUBJ: EARLY REENLISTMENT/EXTENSION AUTHORIZATION FOR BLENDED
RETIREMENT SYSTEM CONTINUATION PAY
A. Enlistments, Evaluations, and Advancements, COMDTINST M1000.2C
B. 37 U.S.C. § 356
1. This ALCOAST updates REF (A) to allow members to extend or
reenlist more than 90 days prior to their end of enlistment
(EOE) in order to meet the four‐year obligated service requirement
for Continuation Pay (CP) under the Blended Retirement System (BRS).
2. Currently, REF (A) authorizes early reenlistments or extensions
only under specific circumstances, such as PCS orders, attendance at
a resident school, or fulfillment of Post‐9/11 GI Bill service
obligations. At this time, eligibility for BRS CP is not considered
a valid reason for early reenlistment or extension. As a result,
members reaching the time in service milestone at which CP becomes
payable may be unable to obligate the required four years of service
within the current policy limits. To address this, REF (A) is being
updated to authorize early extensions or reenlistments for the
purpose of meeting the BRS CP service obligation.
3. These changes will be incorporated into the next revision
of REF (A). Policies and standards in REF (A) not specifically
addressed by this ALCOAST remain unchanged.
4. This message will be cancelled on 12 MAY 2026.
5. Questions regarding obligated service requirements or other human
resource management matters may be directed to Office of Military
Personnel Policy (CG‐1M11) at: HQSPolicyandStandards@uscg.mil.
6. CAPT R. P. Matson, Acting Assistant Commandant for Military
Personnel (CG‐1M), sends.
7. Internet release is authorized.
