Acquisition Update: Coast Guard Completes C-27J Deliveries To Air Station Sacramento

June 20, 2017

Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento, California, is operating with its full complement of aircraft following delivery of the sixth C-27J Spartan medium range surveillance aircraft May 1.

The air station is the first operational unit to receive C-27Js. The sixth aircraft was delivered two months ahead of schedule.

“Air Station Sacramento’s receipt of the sixth aircraft marks an important milestone for the C-27J project,” said Lt. Cmdr. Bart Philpott, deputy program manager for the C-27J acquisition. “It should provide Sacramento flexibility in their operational schedule while we move to full operational capability with full mission system integration.”

The C-27J program will meet with Naval Air Systems Command and original equipment manufacturer personnel this summer at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, to further develop mission system integration specifications.

The air station’s C-27Js are replacing HC-130H Hercules long range surveillance aircraft. The C-27Js provide medium-range air capability for the Coast Guard’s maritime patrol, drug and migrant interdiction, disaster response, and search and rescue missions.
