Captain Michael Hudson, Commanding Officer

Captain Michael Hudson reports to Base Cape Cod following his most recent tour as the Business Operations Division Chief at the Coast Guard’s Shore Infrastructure Logistics Center. In this position he was responsible for the information systems, workforce management, and business performance for the 520 person civil engineering field headquarters that oversees the Coast Guard’s $20 billion real property portfolio.

Captain Hudson is a Cutterman, having served in Coast Guard Cutters VIGILANT, CONFIDENCE, and TAMPA and commanding TAHOMA.  In addition, he was the temporary commanding officer of both TAMPA and THETIS.  During his time in command, his crews completed a clean sweep of all warfare areas at Tailored Ship’s Training Availability earning the coveted Overall Operational Readiness Excellence award, transited the Panama Canal, interdicted over 2300 kilograms of contraband, and disrupted a major drug trafficking organization in the Eastern Pacific. 


Captain Hudson’s shore assignments have primarily been in the civil engineering community, beginning with a tour as project manager and tower engineer at Civil Engineering Unit Oakland following graduate school.  He was also the facility engineer and industrial manager at Integrated Support Command San Pedro and Executive Officer and Deputy Product Line Manager at Civil Engineering Unit (CEU) Miami.  While at CEU Miami, Captain Hudson served as project manager for the demolition of the former Coast Guard OMEGA navigation tower in Monrovia, Liberia.  Working with the American Embassy and host country, he coordinated in-country logistics and security and was involved in the site preparation for the explosive demolition of the 1400-foot tower, setting a world record at the time for the tallest structure felled by explosion. 


Captain Hudson earned a Bachelor of Science with high honors in Civil Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a Masters in Public Administration from California State University Long Beach. He also graduated from the USDA Graduate School’s Executive Potential Program and the UNC Chapel Hill Advanced Program in Logistics and Technology.  He holds a Professional Civil Engineer’s license from the state of California and is a certified Project Management Professional.
