2022 IRS Forms W-2 and 1095-C Information

2022 IRS tax forms W-2 (Wage and Tax Statement) and 1095-C (Employer-Provided Health Insurance Offer and Coverage) will be mailed no later than 31 Jan 2023 to the member's mailing address listed in Direct Access. Members will also be able to download their tax forms from Direct Access. Those who have opted out of receiving paper copies will not receive a paper copy in the mail.

Additional Information Required When Submitting Trouble Tickets for Tax Issues

Attach a copy of the member's current IRS form W-4 to all trouble tickets for tax issues. In order to determine if there are any programming problems or if DA is calculating taxes correctly, a copy of members W-4 is required. This is based on the guidance provided by IRS in Publication 15-T. There are certain areas that are only filled out on the actual W-4 that is needed information in order for us to calculate what system should be doing.

Indiana to Phase Out State Income Tax on Military Retirement Pensions and Survivor Benefits by 2022

Indiana House Enrolled Act 1010 will phase in a full income tax exemption for military retirement pensions over four years (2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022).

Nebraska to Exempt Military Retired Pay from State Income Tax Beginning in 2022

On 26 May 2021, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts signed Legislative Bill (LB) 387 into law, allowing 100% of military retirement pay to be exempted from Nebraska income tax starting January 1, 2022.

Utah Ends Tax on Military Retirement Pay

The state of Utah has become the latest to stop taxing military retired pay. On March 11, 2021, Gov. Spencer J. Cox signed Senate Bill 11 into law, providing an average annual tax savings to military retirees and their survivors of $1,315, according to the state’s budget office.

North Carolina Eliminates Tax on Military Pension Income

Per NC Senate Bill 105, Section 42.1A(a), North Carolina allows residents to deduct amounts received from their gross income for retirement pay (for those who served at least 20 years or were medically retired) and/or payments received under the Survivor Benefit Plan.

Arizona Exempts Military Retired Pay from State Income Tax

Military Pension Subtraction: For 2021 the subtraction for benefits, annuities and pensions as retired or retainer pay of the uniforms services has increased from a maximum of $3,500 to 100% of the amount received during 2021. This means that benefits, annuities and pensions as retired or retainer pay of the uniformed services are no longer taxable in Arizona.

Corrected 2020 OASDI Tax Deferral IRS Form W-2C Available in Direct Access

Per IRS guidance, if you had only one employer during 2020 and your Form W-2c (Corrected Wages and Tax Statement) for 2020 only shows a correction to box 4 to account for employee Social Security tax that was deferred in 2020 and withheld in 2021 pursuant to IRS Notice 2020-65, no further steps are required.

Retirees/Annuitants/FSPA Payees Change your Federal Income Tax Withholding or Additional Withholding: 

Do not use IRS W-4P (Withholding Certificate for Pension or Annuity Payments). Direct Access is configured to withhold federal income tax based on the information from the IRS W-4. Beginning on April 1, 2020, if you provide your information on a W-4P form, you will be asked to complete a W-4 instead so that the system will be able to recognize your request

Maine Releases New State Income Tax Withholding Certificate

Maine has updated Form W-4ME, Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate. If you are a resident of Maine you should complete the new form and, if needed, update your state income withholding allowances via Direct Access Self Service as soon as possible.
