October 2021 Reserve Servicewide Exam (RSWE) Announcement
ALCOAST 210/21 provides guidance for units and Servicing Personnel Offices (SPOs) on common issues and questions identified during the Release from Active Duty (RELAD) process for reservists recalled to active duty under USC Sec. 12302 or USC Sec. 12301(d) (contingency Active Duty for Operational Support (ADOS)). For purposes of entitlements and benefits, COVID-19 response is considered a contingency operation.

1-SWE coming soon
The active duty enlisted workforce will soon see a change in how often junior petty officers compete for advancement. Beginning with the May 2022 servicewide exam (SWE), the Coast Guard will move to an annual examination, eliminating the November SWE, for all active duty enlisted members competing for advancement to E5 through E8, an effort known as the 1-SWE .

Updated study guide for Service Wide Exam
FORCECOM established a bank of over 500 questions upon which the Enlisted Professional Military Education (EPME) section of the test will be based. With input from the field, the collaborative team of subject matter experts, and senior enlisted leaders, removed outdated questions and references were updated so members can be more efficient while studying the content. The references are now based on where the most current and relevant information is located. Piloting the use of a question bank to help guide learning begins with the MAY21 SWE and will continue for at least two testing cycles to collect data and determine the impact.

Changes to Rated Sea Time for Advancement to DC, EM, ET, and MK Ratings
ALCOAST ACN 012/21 announces updates to Enlistments, Evaluations, and Advancements, COMDTINST M1000.2 (series) regarding rated sea time for advancement in DC, EM, ET, and MK ratings. The new requirements are:
a. E-6 – DC, EM, ET, MK – 12 months in designated rating in any paygrade.
b. E-7 – DC, EM, ET, MK – 36 months in designated rating in any paygrade.
The new sea duty requirements will go into effect for the May 2023 SWE.

The 2021 Master Chief Advancement Panel (MCAP) will convene May 10 at Coast Guard headquarters. The panel will recommend eligible active duty senior chief petty officers (SCPOs) for advancement to master chief petty officer for all ratings, except the musician rating.
